Support
the 2007 "Dirty Little Secret" Bicycle ride across NY. This is a grass
roots effort, so the number one way you can support us is by spreading
the word. I would love to chat with you if you can meet us along the planned route.
If you are a biker, I would love for you to join me. While
you may not be able to make the full 450+ mile journey, you may wish to
ride with me through your community. Approximate times of travel will
be posted and updated on this page as well. If you can dedicate 8 days
and can ride approximately 66 miles per day, I would love to have you
join me for the whole trip.

NY has a “dirty
little secret” and it is time that secret is told. Beginning August
17th, 2007 Cecil Rhoades will ride across NY State on bicycle alerting its
inhabitants that the majority of those convicted of rape, criminal sex act,
or any other sexual assault against an adult or child in NY are not sentenced
to jail or prison. The ride will begin at the NY state line on state route
5 near Ripley, NY, and proceed Northeasterly to Niagara Falls following
bicycle route 5 most of the way to Albany. The ride is intended to catch
the attention of the politicians, where Rhoades hopes to meet with key lawmakers
on August 24th. |

Day one route, After the 8:00 AM rally at the Ripley Elementary School (approx 8:30) we will ride from the school back to the state line on route 20. We will take a picture under the "Welcome to NY" sign and then start the ride.
The ride will progress easterly along state route 20 to Silver Creek, route 5 to Farnham. We will ride easterly to North Collins, taking route 62 into Buffalo. I should arrive in Buffalo around 6:00 PM. Of course timing depends on how many people I talk to on the route.

I will be in front of the Erie County court house at 8:00 AM
The ride will progress North on Franklin, West on North, North on Elmwood, West on Hertel. This will take us to the official Bicycle Route 5, which is 265 North, 104 North, 62 East, 429 North, 31 East.
